UPDATE 10/19/08:
Jethro made his first public appearance as GCDR's mascot. He met many adoring fans at the New Orleans Pet Health Fair. He used his charm to educate people about the dangers of breeding dapples to dapples, just for a "pretty puppy." We feel that each person walked away understanding that breeding should be left to the professionals.
Thank you Jethro!
UPDATE 10/16/08:
Jethro is doing very well. His recovery is amazing and in just a few months, he will be able to have his surgery to correct the hole in his soft pallate. Jethro has some other genetic problems, including an enlarged skull and a bend in his spine. Because of these issues, Jethro will forever be GCDR's poster-puppy for spay/neuter and double-dapple education.
UPDATE 10/2/08:
Jethro
is out of surgery!
Tonsils are out, but he also had a hole in his soft palate. All the
food
he ate would just go right up through his sinuses and cause the
infection. Dr. Moore used the skin from his tonsillectomy to close the
hole, and we need some of your biggest prayers to have this keep the
hole closed and fixed. Worst case scenario for him if nothing works:
recurrent pneumonia.
The space to work in his tiny
little body was limited, and prayers would be appreciated that he'll recover with no problems.

Jethro is a double dapple puppy who has a really rough start in life. He's already lost one sibling and his momma passed away. Little orphan Jethro has some genetic issues. Luckily, all of his issues are fixable, if we can just get some donations to help!
Jethro was believed to be blind when he first came to rescue. Luckily, that proved to be not true. He can see and hear perfectly. He did, however, have an upper-respitory infection that would just never go away. His head is a bit bigger and more round than it should be, due to horrible breeding.
After 2 weeks in rescue, and visit after visit to the vet, we have determined that due to his enlarged cranium, he has tonsillitis! His tonsils are 5 times the normal size! This is putting pressure on his sinuses, and causing the upper-respiratory symptoms. So far, over 250.00 has been incurred in vet bills and that is before his surgery. He is a perfectly happy little boy who loves to run and play and snuggle, despite his daily discomfort. Honestly, he's never known a day without some sort of discomfort. We are looking forward to the day when he knows what it's like to be pain-free. We can't replace his mom or his sister, but we can get him on the road to recovery and on his way to a new forever home.
If you'd like to donate, please click on the paypal button below. Be sure to put that it's for Jethro's vet bills.
Every penny helps!!!
